THE PROCESS
What does working with Valley West look like from start to finish?
We walk you through every phase — from the initial consultation and permitting, through construction, to final walkthrough and sign-off. You'll have a clear point of contact throughout so you're never left wondering what's happening with your project.
Do you handle permits?
Yes. We manage the permitting process on your behalf, coordinating with the city and any required inspectors. We know LA's requirements well, especially for hillside, seismic, and soft-story work.
Will I be updated throughout the project?
Absolutely. We keep you informed at every milestone and communicate proactively if anything changes — you'll never have to chase us down for an update.
Do I need to have a design or architect before reaching out?
No — you don't need to have everything figured out before you call us. We work with clients at every stage of the process, whether you have full architectural plans ready or just an idea. We can connect you with trusted architects and designers we've worked with, and collaborate closely with your existing team if you already have one in place.
HILLSIDE & SEISMIC WORK
My home is on a hillside — can you help?
Yes, this is one of our specialties. Hillside construction in LA requires specific expertise in grading, drainage, and structural support. We've been doing this work in the region for decades.
What is a seismic retrofit and does my home need one?
A seismic retrofit strengthens your home's connection to its foundation so it performs better in an earthquake. If your home was built before 1980, it likely hasn't been retrofitted. We can assess your property and let you know what, if anything, is recommended.
What is a soft-story retrofit and does my building need one?
A soft-story building has a weak or open ground floor — common in apartment buildings with a carport or garage on the bottom level. That open lower level lacks the structural walls needed to resist movement during an earthquake, making it vulnerable to collapse. Los Angeles has a mandatory soft-story retrofit ordinance requiring wood-frame buildings with 2 or more stories and 3 or more units to be retrofitted. If you own a multi-family building and haven't addressed this yet, we can assess your property and walk you through the process.

Do you work on apartment buildings and multi-family properties?
Yes. We build and renovate multi-family residential properties including duplexes, triplexes, and apartment buildings across Los Angeles. We understand what investors and landlords need — durable work, minimal disruption, and projects that stay on schedule.
What commercial projects do you take on?
We handle office buildouts, retail spaces, tenant improvements, and commercial construction projects throughout LA. If you're not sure whether your project fits, just reach out — we're straightforward about what we do and don't take on.
